Paula Madison takes new job at NBC Universal

Paula Madison is stepping down as general manager of NBC's KNBC-TV in Los Angeles to devote full-time to her duties as Vice President of Diversity. Ms. Madison became the first African-American to run a TV station in the nation's second-largest market, when she landed the position in late 2000. She also inherited the duties of regional general manager of two Spanish-language TV outlets when NBC acquired them in 2002.

KNBC has struggled in the ratings as of late, with ABC-owned KABC-TV re-establishing its dominance in local news and CBS-owned KCBS-TV making ratings gains, thanks to the acquisition of Dr. Phil, a talk show that once aired on KNBC. Not helping is NBC's lousy prime-time schedule, which has posted record-low ratings in the last several weeks.
