WHDH's turnaround

Once a laughingstock in the Boston news race (and the channel that had the dubious distinction of losing its FCC license - twice), NBC affiliate WHDH-TV (Channel 7) is one of the network's best performing stations. Now meet the person who keeps the station at the top at 11 p.m. (who needs an NBC lead-in, anyway?) and very competitive with ABC affiliate WCVB-TV the rest of the day - 39 year-old general manager Randi Goldklank. She also runs sister station WLVI-TV, the market's CW affiliate.

For the record, WHDH became an NBC affiliate on January 2, 1995 after it lost its CBS affiliation to WBZ-TV after then-owner Westinghouse Broadcasting made an affiliate deal with all five of its stations. WBZ was an NBC affiliate for 47 years.
